Orville Mouse and the Puzzle of the Clockwork Glowbirds (Orville Wellington Mouse Book 1)
by Tom Hoffman (Author)

Picture

Best friends Orville and Sophia join the Metaphysical Adventurers Society, learn seemingly magical skills "based in deep physics,"  befriend a 10 ft mechanical rabbit and embark on a worlds-spanning quest to expose a murderer and prevent a war.
The protagonists are likable, the metaphysical philosophy makes the narrative more satisfying than merely a good yarn, and the humor, of which this novel has plenty, is handled with consummate skill.
Highly recommended, a YA novel for all.
Sequel coming in Dec 2016.

Zeus Is Dead: A Monstrously Inconvenient Adventure
by Michael Munz (Author)

Picture

Zeus, king of the Olympian Gods is murdered. The rest of the gods reverse his long-standing decree of withdrawal from mortal affairs and make themselves known once again via a press conference. Lots of chaos and adventure ensues.
Apollo recruits Zeus' half-mortal daughter Tracy (producer of the hit TV show
Monster Killer and her besotted sidekick Leif to resurrect Zeus and restore order.  But first there are an assortment of olympian-created monsters, demi-gods and Titans to battle, and a giant icecream sundae to endow with immortal powers.
There is much humor in Zeus, many satirical pop culture references and author asides addressed directly to the reader, and for the most part it all works quite well, but there are some instances when the asides and pop references fall flat or a turn of phrase is clumsy. Overall the novel works well, Munz is a talented writer and it's a fun read. Recommended for those seeking a  lighthearted, humorous read.

Orville Mouse and the Puzzle of the Clockwork Glowbirds is like Alice in Wonderland and other classics, because it can be read by an adult. This is a well written and interesting story. This is a nonstop adventure from the beginning to the end, with many surprises and twists. Zeus Is Dead: A Monstrously Inconvenient Adventure is a simultaneously a murder mystery, classic hero quest, and old school comedy. This is relatively unpredictable, it was a fun take on Greek mythology, and the author managed to avoid a lot of pitfalls. I really recommend this to everyone.
